The ongoing civil war in Yemen risks an escalation with drone strikes launched by the Houthi against the United Arab Emirates. This is apparently in retaliation against the increased military campaign against the Houthis led by the Saudis and the UAE. The Houthi themselves are a group in control of Yemen’s capital unrecognised by most of the international community. Doug Becker discusses the latest escalation in Yemen with Hamoud Salhi and Charles Schmitz.

Charles Schmitz is a Professor of Geography at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is an expert on Yemen and the co-author of Historical Dictionary of Yemen (Historical Dictionaries of Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East).

Hamoud Salhi is a Professor of Political Science and Associate Dean of International Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is also a commentator for Arabic media.
