In April, Colombian demonstrators took to the streets to protest new policies proposed by the Government. The police responded with violence, with videos of the police response going viral. The response has subsequently led to larger protests against the Colombian Government. What are the prospects for political change in the embattled Latin American nation? Doug Becker speaks with Arlene B. Tickner and James A. Robinson.

Arlene B. Tickner is a Professor of International Relations at the Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, Colombia. She is an expert in Latin American politics and is the author of International Relations from the Global South: Worlds of Difference.

James A. Robinson is a Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at the University of Chicago. He is an expert in political conflict and is the author of Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, And Poverty.
