A new report has been released by the Child Poverty Action Group detailing food poverty and how it affects children in New Zealand. The report is titled “Aotearoa, land of the long wide bare cupboard” and comes in addition to research from the Auckland City Mission, which estimates that at least 500,000 people are experiencing food insecurity on a regular basis. Tuwhenuaroa Natanahira spoke with AUT professor Elaine Rush about the report and food poverty in New Zealand.

Elaine Rush is a Professor of Nutrition at AUT. She is the head of the AUT Food Network and is an expert in nutrition and the prevention of chronic diseases.
